Hi all, I’ve been debating if living alone is financially responsible decision in my case. For context, I work in tech sales, so although I do get a base pay, my monthly income also does fluctuate and is different every month based on commission from sales I make at my job.
My base pay is $74k, and after maxing out my 401k every month my take home (base pay+commission) is anywhere between $6,500-9000 a month. I live in NYC with 2 other roommates in a tiny walk up apartment with basically no living room and sunlight. I use a budgeting app to track my expenses every month and usually I keep my monthly spending including rent/entertainment/eating out/shopping all under 2550. And I’ve been debating if I should look into living alone maybe in a small studio in the price ranges of about $2500, I know right now rent is a bit cheaper due to winter.
I know it’s cheaper to live with roommates but I feel like in exchange it does affect me as I’m an introvert, sometimes disagreements with roommates, and I can’t bulk buy a lot of things due to limited shared space. But would like to hear from a personal finance perspective from others! TIA!
Edit: I currently have about $65k saved in my investment accounts and $75k saved in liquid cash in my HYSA for emergencies. Every month I max out my 401k so I invest a little over $2000 in my accounts.
