President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Alhaji Ahmadu Kurfi, the Maradin Katsina and district head of Kurfi, describing him as an elder statesman and a distinguished public servant whose legacy will endure.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extended his condolences to the government and people of Katsina State, as well as to the bereaved family of the late traditional leader.
“Alhaji Ahmadu Kurfi was an exemplary figure whose contributions to national development and public service will not be forgotten,” President Tinubu said.
“He was instrumental in Nigeria’s political evolution, notably as the executive secretary of the Federal Electoral Commission (FEDECO), where he oversaw the critical transition to democratic governance in 1979”, he said.
The President emphasized Kurfi’s enduring impact as a leader and urged current public servants to draw inspiration from his dedication and service to the nation.
In addition to his political legacy, Alhaji Kurfi was revered as a traditional leader who fostered development and unity in his community.
His passing, President Tinubu noted, is a significant loss, not just to Katsina State, but to the entire country.
The President offered prayers for the repose of Kurfi’s soul and pledged his solidarity with the grieving family.
“May his legacy of service and humanity continue to inspire future generations,” Tinubu said.
