Welcome to the new year! And what will certainly be a jubilant January at the Oakland Public Library. We’re celebrating the Lunar New Year and all the beautiful possibilities in store for 2025! We host hundreds of events every month, so here are the highlights:
There’s still plenty of time to compete in the Winter Bingo challenge! Don’t forget to pick up a bingo card from your local library branch. This fun literacy game is designed for kids 0-14 years old and runs through January 21, 2025.
2025 is the year for financial fitness! Attend our 6-part, free, beginner-friendly financial literacy course to take back control of your finances. Thursdays until Feb 13 at 5:30pm.
In order to keep your New Years resolutions, you have to first envision them. Bring yours friends along to the vision board party at the 81st Ave branch January 11 at 3pm.
Celebrate the Lunar New Year at your library with a Ba Bao Fan demo and sampling at Asian branch on January 11, lantern making craft at César E. Chávez Branch on February 1, and a party at the Main Library Children’s Room on February 8 complete with a Chinese brush painting workshop and themed story time.
The Oakland Youth Poet Laureate application opened on January 3 and close February 3. Teens ages 13-18 are encouraged to apply.
