Expecting downvotes. But what if the game of football has changed to the degree that its making officiating harder?

Players getting more skilled at simulation and feigning injury. Players getting faster and fitter. Scrutiny in the media (and social media) getting more intense. Fear of failure even higher. Abuse and harassment of refs increasing.

These surely are factors in making officiating harder no? How can it be that it seems with every major league, there's complaints about standard of refs? It may be true. It may be an agenda in the media because it gets engagement. Its probably a bit of both. But why is it that worldwide, officiating seems to be getting worse?

What if it is actually a case that the game is harder to officiate?

(and before anyone says, what about at the WC or at the Euros?, well its likely because the very best qualifying refs are chosen from all federations, its the creme de la creme)
