Matt Hamill has offered Jon Jones the chance to avenge his only UFC defeat.
Hamill was awarded a victory over Jones 15 years ago when the latter was disqualified for using a then-illegal elbow.
The fight remains Jones’ only defeat in his 24-fight, 17-year UFC career, which includes 12 title defences over two championship reigns.
Hamill, 48, was the first deaf fighter to compete in Dana White‘s promotion following a successful career as a high school wrestling star.
He had emerged victorious in six of his first eight UFC bouts when he met the reigning heavyweight champion in December 2009.
Now, Hamill has now offered the 37-year-old the chance to get his own back.
“If the one loss really bothers Jon Jones, let’s have a rematch,” Hamill said on The Ariel Helwani Show.
“It’s not going to be like Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson. I expect there to be blood and broken bones.
“If Jon Jones wants to have a rematch with me I’d be ready to do it.
“If that really happens I’d want to go through a proper training camp. I need someone who trains better than me and is a really great fighter.
“Don’t get me wrong, I wish him nothing but the best. I have nothing to be bothered about with Jon Jones, but it would be a nice opportunity to have a rematch.”
Jones was disqualified for repeatedly using an illegal 12-6 elbow during his encounter with Hamill in The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweight Finale.
The 12-6 elbow is an MMA strike where a fighter lifts their arm as high as possible and drives it from a 12 o’clock position to a six o’clock position with maximum force.
The ban on the move was lifted ahead of a UFC Fight Night event at the start of November.
Hamill was then pressed by Ariel Helwani on whether he feels he has a realistic chance of actually defeating the UFC heavyweight champion in a rematch.
“Oh, absolutely,” he responded. “I’d be ready to move up to heavyweight and I don’t have to worry about cutting weight.
“It would be my first time fighting with the heavyweights. It’s up to Dana White, if you want to do it, let’s do it. I’ll be ready.”
UFC President White has admitted for several years that he has attempted to get Jones’ loss overturned, but there has never been any official confirmation of that happening.
California State Athletic Commission Executive Director Andy Foster appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show in November and revealed that he is supportive of overturning the loss.
Hamill was also asked about his victory being overturned and asserted he has ‘unfinished business’ with Jones.
Jones defended his heavyweight strap for the first time against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.
Britain’s Tom Aspinall is the current interim champion and it is likely that he will fight Jones in 2025 to unify the division.
UFC CEO White has insisted that Jones vs Aspinall will ‘100 per cent’ happen after months of rumours and back and forth trash talk.
Jones has never publicly said that he would interested in a fight with Aspinall, instead opting to steer the conversation towards a ‘legacy’ fight with UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan claimed that Jones had requested around $30 million to fight Aspinall in what would be one of the sport’s biggest-ever heavyweight bouts of all time.
