EFCC Issues Invitation To Okoya Brothers Over Alleged Naira Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has summoned Wahab and Raheem Okoya, the sons of billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya, for questioning regarding suspected naira abuse.

Raheem and Wahab are required to report to the commission’s Lagos office for questioning on Monday.

The brothers drew widespread criticism after a video emerged of them displaying and spraying bundles of N1,000 notes in a promotional clip for Raheem’s new song, “Credit Alert.”

The brothers, dressed in white agbadas, were seen in the video dancing while a mobile policeman held bundles of new naira notes, which they threw into the air.

The incident, widely seen as a defiance of the law, attracted criticism on social media, with some Nigerians expressing concerns about the lack of accountability due to their father’s influential position.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Force Spokesperson, said on Friday that the officer in the video had been identified and apprehended.

On Saturday, The Cable reported that, according to an invitation signed by Michael Wetkas, the Acting Director of the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC, the Okoya brothers were instructed to report to the Head of the Special Operations Team at the commission’s office located at 15A Awolowo Road by 10 am on Monday, January 13, 2025.

In a WhatsApp conversation with Punch on Saturday, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, confirmed the report, saying, “Yes, they have been invited.”
