(WCIA) — Illinois track and field opened up the season at the UI Armory, hosting two other programs for the Fighting Illini Open.
The day was highlighted by a new school and facility record in the long jump by Tacoria Humphrey. Her 6.78-meter jump is the longest in the nation in 2025, and seven more Illini jumpers joined her in the top ten.
Illinois swept the podium in several track events, including the men’s 60-meter hurdle, women’s mile and women’s 60-meter dash.
In addition to Humphrey’s long jump title, eight Illini won field titles, including a new school record in the weight throw by Phethisang Makhethe.
The Illini head to Bloomington next for the Hoosier Horsepower Classic on Saturday, January 18.
