The Lions Clubs International District 301-B1 Philippines, with Emergency Relief Grant funding from the Lions Clubs International Foundation, successfully conducted a relief operation for evacuees affected by the Kanlaon volcano eruption.
On January 11, 2025, members from 47 Lions Clubs in Western Visayas distributed essential aid, including 600 emergency food packs, 600 hygiene and toiletry kits, 2,000 ready-to-eat food packs, and 600 kiddie happy packs for children. This aid supported internally displaced persons (IDPs) evacuated from the 4-kilometer danger zone surrounding Kanlaon volcano.
The primary beneficiaries of the relief operation were the evacuation centers at La Carlota City College Cubay Campus, which hosted 108 families and 328 individuals; La Carlota South II Elementary School, with 102 families and 386 individuals; La Carlota Gymnasium, housing 20 families and 68 individuals; and La Castellana National High School – Junior High, where 366 families and 1,166 individuals sought refuge.
This timely assistance was crucial for the displaced families, who were forced to evacuate due to increased volcanic activity and the threat of eruption. The relief operation aimed to provide immediate support, ensuring that affected individuals had access to basic needs such as food, hygiene products, and shelter. (TDE)
