In 2024, the world became 1.5°C hotter than pre-industrial times, according to The European Copernicus Climate Service.
This fact doesn’t mean the Paris Agreement target is broken, but it shows we are very close. Burning fossil fuels is causing the temperature to rise, as it adds harmful gases to the air. Climate expert Ella Gilbert talked about how this warming creates more extreme weather, like wildfires in Los Angeles and floods in Valencia. These events show that climate change is already harming people’s lives. Gilbert said it is still possible to prevent worse disasters, but we must act quickly.
Reducing pollution and preparing for climate change can help. Governments, businesses, and all people must work together to reduce emissions and slow global warming.
