TOLONO, Ill. (WCIA) — Tolono is officially considered a “National Weather Service Ready Community.”
They were recognized by the National Weather Service Tuesday night, complete with a metal sign and certificate.
In order to be considered a Storm Ready Community, they had to have:
- Multiple ways to get severe weather information
- Multiple ways to inform people of severe weather
- A written plan for emergency situations.
Assistant Fire Chief Kyle Hayden said it shows they’re prepared for whatever mother nature might throw their way.
“To handle any type of weather event, whether that be wind, snow, flood, tornado, that sort of thing,” Hayden said. “We actually practice these things throughout the years of how to handle those types of situations. And this just obviously goes to show that we’re even more prepared than we ever have been.”
Only 94 other communities in Illinois were recognized as being “Storm Ready.”
