The Los Angeles Dodgers are seemingly ready to cut ties with pitcher Jack Flaherty.
After Flaherty helped lead them to a World Series championship, the Dodgers swiftly added Blake Snell to take his place in the rotation. Los Angeles is also among the teams left in the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes.
Add in the fact that Shohei Ohtani, Dustin May, and a few other arms are returning from injury and it doesn’t seem like Flaherty has a future with the Dodgers.
Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report recently suggested the Los Angeles Angels could look to pursue Flaherty. Flaherty is projected to sign for $80 million, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post. The Angels could definitely afford a deal like that if they’re as aggressive as their other moves make it seem.

“The Dodgers seemingly will be moving on from Flaherty, but what about the other team that calls Los Angeles home (well, sort of)? Flaherty attended Harvard-Westlake High School in Los Angeles, so if not the Dodgers, the Angels would be the next-closest team to where he grew up,” Kelly wrote. “Ultimately, this may come down to whether owner Arte Moreno authorizes another relatively large expenditure.
“The reality, though, is that the Angels have had nine consecutive losing seasons, and Moreno is 78 years old. Whether the addition of Flaherty would make the Angels a playoff team in 2025 or not, it would represent perhaps their best remaining path toward being relevant for the first time in years.”
The Angels shocked the baseball world at the trade deadline last season. Rather than blow their roster up and trade everybody for prospects, Los Angeles decided to hold onto some of its most valuable players.
With those players, including Taylor Ward, still on the roster, the Angels have gone out and spent money in free agency. Flaherty would be the next player to join the Angels as they look to contend in 2025.
