Former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney will launch his bid for the Liberal leadership at a party event in Edmonton today.
Carney is the first big name to enter the March 9th race, with five cabinet ministers already bowing out.
Carney chose Edmonton to make his announcement, despite it being a Conservative stronghold, because he was raised in the city.
We still have yet to hear from former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and candidates have until January 23rd to declare themselves.
In the meantime, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he won’t run for re-election in his Montreal riding when the next federal vote is held.
