Centennial set to host Central for doubleheader

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Centennial and Central will meet in boys and girls basketball on the same night on Friday, Jan. 17.

The girls game is schedule to start at 6:00 with the boys game following at roughly 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

In the boys game, the Maroons sit at 10-6 on the season, while the Chargers enter this game 8-8. In the girls game, both teams hope to move one win closer to a .500 record with a win.

“I try to tell these guys it’s just another game, but they know because they’re friends on the other side of it, on the other side of school. So they understand that it’s a little bit more than that,” Centennial Head Boys Basketball Coach Roderick Hutchison said.

“Definitely means a little bit more,” Centennial senior guard Kellen Davis said.

“But to us, it’s just another game. It’s about execution and what we could do on the floor and playing together one time.”

“Take it like any other game. Respect all your opponents, but don’t get too high in the moment because you’re going to see a lot of your friends and family at this game,” Central Head Boys Basketball Coach PJ Keaton said.

“It’s going to be a nice crowd and you probably know the guys you’re playing against”

“A win would mean a lot,” Central senior forward Chris Bush said.

“I’ve never beat them, and so a win would mean a lot. Just trying to get that curse off my back. “
