Akhunbaev Kyrgyz State Medical Academy is the first medical university in
Kyrgyzstan opened in 1939.
Today,
KSMA has become the leader in higher medical education in Kyrgyzstan and one of
the leading medical universities in Central Asia and CIS region, with a
wide-range of expertise area and strong systems, practices and traditions in
medical and pharmaceutical training.
More
than 11 000 students are currently studying in KSMA, including more than 3 700
foreign students, 2 000 clinical residents, more than 200 graduate students and
doctoral students and more than 300 students in the Medical Lyceum. Training is available
in three languages – Kyrgyz, Russian and English.
The main MISSION of the Medical Academy is to
improve the health and quality of life of the population, to meet the needs of
society and the individual in intellectual, cultural and moral development
through quality and continuous training of medical and pharmaceutical
personnel, based on the trinity of innovative education, science and clinical
practice in accordance with the challenges of the 21st century.
The academy aims to
implement its mission in accordance with the highest professional and ethical
standards that encourages students to take out fully their potential.
A system of comprehensive and continuous education is offered in the
Academy, which ensures person’s educational potential and its growth starting
from school to throughout their life. This system includes:
– secondary general education
for programs of 10 and 11 grades in the professionally-oriented Lyceum,
– secondary vocational education
at the Medical School for the visually impaired,
– higher professional education
at the faculties of undergraduate training in 8 specialties – General
Medicine, Pediatrics, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Preventive Care,
Military Medicine and Biomedical Engineering
– postgraduate higher education
residency in 112 medical specialties,
– postgraduate and doctoral
studies in 80 specialties;
– as well as additional
professional education in continuing education courses in various fields of
medicine and pharmacy.
The Academy has a strong infrastructure to ensure the high-standard
education and practical training. It has 6
academic buildings, as well as a student campus in Tash-Dobo. There are 9
hostels for international and local students, equipped with all necessary appliances
for comfortable life and study. 62 departments as well as 4 clinics and 2
medical centers ensure the high-quality educational process to all level
students.
Also, KSMA owns a unique
Museum of Plastination, which has educational exhibits representing natural
organs and tissues of humans and animals preserved by replacing tissue fluid
and fats with reactive polymers.
KSMA owns a large Library system
with the collection of over 512 000 reading recourses on medicine, pharmacy and
other relevant field of study. The library system includes 6 book distribution
terminals, 7 reading rooms, and an electronic library.
KSMA has organized conditions for the full
development of students as individuals through active educational and cultural
work, academic mobility. There are equipped gyms, training grounds (football,
basketball, volleyball, street workout) equipped with appropriate sports equipment
for physical education and sports. KSMA has
international institutional and program accreditations.
According to the results of the Global Aggregated
Rating of 2022, KSMA
entered the top 10% of the best universities in the world. And also, constantly
ranks first in the independent ranking of universities in Kyrgyzstan (2021,
2022).
Currently, KSMA sets itself such breakthrough, at the same time,
realistic goals:

initiating and supporting innovative production and management technologies,
progressive processes of social development of the country and the global

least enter the top 500 universities in Asia.

remaining the flagship of higher medical education, preserving and multiplying
