The first annual Canoe Slalom Girls Camp was held following the Canoe Slalom Age Nationals on the Forth River, Tasmania, with 30 participants aged 10-60 taking part.
The camp was led by a stellar team of coaches, with Zoe Lau, Andrea McQuitty. Abby Collins, Ros Lawrence, Ally Cork, Alex Broome and Vicky Bonwick gathering to share their expertise and love of whitewater.
The aim of the camp was to connect Australian female paddlers of all ages and abilities, providing them with a social and support network in the paddling world, as well as the opportunity to experience being in the majority on the water.
Paddlers learned slalom and whitewater skills and participated in team building and social activities. They also learned about running rivers and working with fear and excitement on whitewater.
This camp was a joint project from Paddle Australia and Paddle Tasmania and forms part of a strategy to build better support for and greater numbers of women in Canoe Slalom.
