Christian Co. Health Dept. warns of inspector scam

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Christian County Health Department is warning residents and businesses of a scam attempt that happened recently in the community.

The health department said that a person tried to impersonate a health inspector in Christian County. The individual is not affiliated with the health department, and tried to conduct an inspection at a local business.

The Christian County Health Department assured residents that inspectors will always bring official identification. They also said that if you do not recognize the inspector, or they do not have the proper credentials, there are a couple of things you should do.

  1. Ask for identification: Inspectors should have a badge and government-issued ID. If they can not provide this, do not allow them to continue the inspection.
  2. Call the health department: If you doubt the legitimacy of the inspector, call the Christian County Health Department to confirm the person’s employment status.
  3. Call local authorities: If you suspect the individual is impersonating a health inspector, contact your local police department immediately.
