An Uber driver’s specific list of rules for their passengers has gone viral, with Reddit users sharing their reactions to the unusual demands.
Chad Prescott from Camden, New Jersey shared a photo of the rules, which were printed and laminated and stuck onto the back of the front seat in the vehicle.
His post, titled “My Uber driver’s list of passenger rules”, went viral on the site, receiving thousands of upvotes and comments from people sharing their reactions.

In the photo, the list of rules includes not eating of drinking in the car and not vaping, as well as not taking any business calls. The Uber driver also says that they will not turn the radio up or down for riders.
“I’d say my reaction was shock that the driver had the audacity to demand I don’t make any business calls,” Prescott told Newsweek.
“I’m an industrial chemical broker and I frequently do business calls while traveling and in all my years riding Uber I never had a driver refuse to let me close deals while riding.”
Prescott added: “Even though many of the rules were reasonable, I found the tone of the list to be unbelievably insulting, as if the driver was talking to her 5 year old child, and not a grown man.
“I understand that you need people to follow the rules, but having them given in such a condescending way literally made me angry.”
Uber is a popular ride-sharing service offering an alternative to traditional taxi cabs. It has grown massively in the last number of years and in 2023, its global revenue was more than $37 billion.
People took to the comments section of Prescott’s Reddit post to share their thoughts and reactions.
“I’m surprised pets are okay considering the rest of the list,” said u/jf2k4.
Meanwhile, u/Narwen189 commented: “The only unreasonable thing is the driver’s refusal to turn his music down or off. Everything else is just common courtesy.
“Keep your pets/kids safe in their seats, don’t have your speakerphone on, don’t make a mess or leave smells in the car by eating/smoking/vaping. Reasonable.
That said, the all-caps and preachy tone are incredibly off-putting.
“I imagine this list might seem uptight and restrictive to some, but honestly, after reading it, I’m like ‘that’s me whenever I’m in someone else’s car’,” said u/93WhiteStrat.
