HEBER CITY, Utah (ABC4) — A Wasatch High School football coach has resigned from his position on the team, just two months after being briefly placed on leave amid an internal investigation.
The Wasatch School District revealed the allegations claimed that head coach Jody Morgan bullied students and possibly jeopardized student safety. The investigation, however, found that the allegations were not substantiated and Morgan was cleared of wrongdoing.
The results of the investigation will not be publically released, the school district said, as the allegations were found to be unsubstantiated.
Still, the school district said they were brought in good faith and raised legitimate concerns. District officials said issues related to bullying and student safety are of great concern to its community and it treats the matters with the “utmost seriousness.”
“After considering all of the circumstances, including the best interests of the program’s student-athletes and the football program as a whole, Coach Morgan has submitted his resignation from his football coaching responsibilities,” the school said in a statement. “In addition, although Coach Morgan will continue to be employed as a teacher in the District, he will no longer be assigned to Wasatch High School.”
Following Morgan’s resignation, Assistant Coach Derik Bringhurst has been put in charge of Wasatch High’s football program until a new head coach can be named. The district said it will immediately open and advertise a head coaching position and hire a new head coach as soon as possible.
