You can play Diablo 4 and its expansion-exclusive Spiritborn class for free, but not for long

Season 7 of Diablo 4 is finally upon us, and judging by early player reactions, its witchcraft theme, new seasonal storyline, and fresh activities are being well received. If you’ve long sar on the sidelines, understandably daunted by what can be quite a complex RPG to learn, then a new free week of Diablo 4 may be the perfect time to try it. Oh, and you can use the very cool Spiritborn class, which is normally exclusive to owners of the Vessel of Hatred expansion only, for free as well.

Diablo 4 Season 7 actually feels like a good jumping in point for any newcomers to the RPG. The overarching narrative of the season really isn’t too complex. The Tree of Whispers, which keeps an army of heads on its branches instead of fruits or flowers, is looking a bit barren. Its heads have gone missing, and these decapitations are now appearing all over the world of Sanctuary and in some cases fusing with other enemy types to create a new foe called the Headrotten.

You’ve got to go find and slay them and bring the heads back to the Tree in exchange for rewards and knowledge from a group of witches. They bestow witchcraft powers upon you, which can enhance your build and let you summon giant killer toads, a squadron of flaming bats, and much more.

An long-overdue and absolutely game-changing new feature, The Armory, has also just been added, which lets players save entire builds that they can seamlessly switch between, rather than having to manually swap out all the aspects of your loadout every time you want to change things up.

To celebrate the start of this new season, Blizzard’s letting you in for free for an entire week, and chucking in the Spiritborn class for good measure. This isn’t the first time the studio’s done this for Diablo 4, and it probably won’t be the last, but given just how fun this season is, now is a superb time to try it out.

Diablo 4 and its Spiritborn class are free to try through Battlenet until Tuesday, January 28.
