LOGAN, Utah (ABC4 Sports) – Following its first road loss of the season, the Utah State basketball team shot the lights out at the Spectrum in a 90-69 victory over Nevada Wednesday night.
Ian Martinez led the way with 23 points, making 7 of 9 from beyond the arc. Utah State was 16-of-30 (.533) from 3-point range, as those 16 made treys are the second-most in a game this year (17 vs. Westminster) and tied for the sixth most in a game in school history.
Aubin Gateretse made 6 of 7 shots from the field, finishing with 16 points. Dexter Akanno scored 15 points, as the Utah State bench outscored Nevada’ reserves, 39-19.
Utah State (17-2, 7-1 Mountain West) made 58.9 percent of its shots from the field, and forced 18 Nevada turnovers. Mason Falsev had four of Utah State’s 14 steals in the game. Falslev also added 9 points and 11 assists.
Utah State, which lose at UNLV last week, took a 47-38 lead into the half, and opened the second half on a 19-9 run to take control. Nevada never got close than 11 points in the second half.
Nick Davidson led the Wolf Pack (11-8, 3-5) with 19 points. Kobe Sanders added 13 points and five assists. Tre Coleman finished with nine points and five assists.
Utah State took the lead with 10:47 left in the first half and did not give it up. Gateretse led the team in scoring with 12 points in the first half to help put them up 47-38 at the break.
Utah State next plays at Air Force Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
