Robert Pattinson surprised by fans who are still ‘sad about’ Twilight

Robert Pattinson has been busy promoting his upcoming movie Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon Ho. While speaking to GQ Spain recently, the actor spoke about how he feels when fans criticize Twilight’s place in the vampire genre.

When the interviewer brought up Twilight in the conversation, Pattinson revealed, “I love that people keep telling me, ‘Man, Twilight ruined the vampire genre.’” He added, “Are you still stuck on that s—? How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It’s crazy.”

Pattinson further stated that it is hard for him to believe that movies like Twilight still have “the cultural relevance” despite being “so old.” He asserted, “The first one was released in 2008, f—!”

The Twilight Saga consisted of a total of five films. In the franchise, Pattinson played the role of the quiet and introverted vampire Edward Cullen, who is the main love interest of the series’ protagonist, Bella Swan. Although the movies kickstarted both stars’ careers as feature-film leads, they went on to reestablish themselves by starring in a wide range of very different projects to showcase their range.

Robert Pattinson has also expressed previously that he is not personally fond of the Twilight movies. However, while talking to People in April 2019, he revealed he re-watched New Moon and said, “It’s a really sweet thing. Now the intensity has died down and it’s just very warm memories.”
