The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday held mock elections as part of preparations for the May 2025 midterm National and Local Elections (NLE).
The mock elections, which started at 7 a.m., are being held in several areas in the country, among them Sulu province, Antipolo City in Rizal, and Makati and Pateros in Metro Manila.
The activity will serve as test to check the readiness of the machines to be used as well as the automated election system itself.
The mock elections in Makati City is being held at Makati High School in Barangay Poblacion, according to a report by Carlo Mateo on Dobol B TV.
Two classrooms were set up here for the mock elections — one will serve as holding area, and the other one as voting area.
An area has been prepared for the vulnerable sector including elderly and pregnant women.
After the general initialization of the machine was done by the teachers, voting began which will end at 10 a.m. The teachers did not have difficulty operating the machine.
One hundred voters will take part in the mock elections at Makati High School.
Observers from the Comelec as well as accredited election watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting were at the site.
The Comelec also put up a voters assistance desk in the school grounds to assist the voters who will take part in the mock elections.
The election period began on January 12 while Election Day will be on May 12. —KG, GMA Integrated News
