With the NBA trade deadline quickly approaching, many teams are gearing up to be buyers before the postseason. But every year, we tend to see some surprises take place at the deadline and this season may be no different.
With the new CBA restrictions in place, teams have to be more careful about how they spend money. This could see some franchises hold off on moves while others make an unexpected run for a specific player.
In this new trade idea, the Utah Jazz make a run at an All-Star player from the New Orleans Pelicans. While Utah isn’t seen as a contender in the Western Conference this season, this move would be more for the future of the team.
Using the Spotrac trade machine and abiding by the CBA rules, here is what a deal between the two sides could look like:
Jazz receive: Brandon Ingram
Pelicans receive: John Collins, Cody Williams, and a 2026 first-round draft pick

Why the Jazz do this
Utah is building for the future but due to their market, landing star players can be tough. They already have Lauri Markkanen locked up on a long-term deal and could pair him alongside Ingram.
If the Jazz were to trade for Ingram, it would likely be under the assumption that they would be willing to give him a long-term contract. Ingram could thrive playing alongside Markkanen, giving Utah a legitimate star duo.
The biggest knick against Ingram over his career has been his health, with him missing significant time this season. But due to this, his being on the team likely wouldn’t impact the Jazz trying to tank for a top draft pick.
This deal could serve Utah well and help them become more relevant in the West.
Why the Pelicans do this
New Orleans has put Ingram on the trade block this season, partly due to their unwillingness to give him an extension. With Ingram becoming a free agent at the end of the season, it would behoove the Pelicans to make sure that they get something for his services.
While the All-Star forward could return to the Pelicans, the likelihood seems low. New Orleans would get a future first-round draft pick in this deal, as well as a solid former first-round pick in Collins.
This is likely the best trade package that the Pelicans would get for Ingram, making it a home run of a deal.
