SANDY, Utah (ABC4) — A man has been charged after he drove his car into the lobby of Sandy dealership after an alleged dispute about the vehicle.
According to court documents, Michael Murray, 35, has been charged with felony destruction of property, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, and misdemeanor economic interruption after an incident occurred Dec. 9 where Murray rammed a vehicle through the front door of the dealership into the lobby.
According to the probable cause statement, Murray told officers after he was arrested that the dealership “tried to sell him a lemon.” After conferring with the dealership owners, police were told that allegedly Murray had come to the dealership demanding his money back from a vehicle he bought.
When the argument could be resolved, Murray told managers that “he was going to drive the vehicle through the front doors.” Shown in a viral video, Murray followed through on his alleged threat, ramming the vehicle into the dealership entrance.
According to statement over $85,000 of damages were caused by the crash, causing the dealership allegedly close for several days to repair damages to the store.
Murray was ordered to be arrested today with a $10,000 bail. Currently it is unknown if Murray has been arrested with this new warrant. However, the indictment requested a no bail warrant, saying that “There is also clear and convincing evidence that the defendant would constitute a danger to the community and the victims.”
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
