Dust jackets: a perhaps controversial opinion

For the vast majority of my books, I keep the dust jacket. I also keep the dust jacket on while reading, as I feel like it enhances the reading experience to be able to look at it. However, some dust jackets are just plain ugly. If the book has a summary written on the copyright page, and I think the dust jacket is too unappealing, I throw the dust jacket away. Most books have a very attractive, simplistic color scheme on the cover of the book itself that rarely if ever gets seen, and I'd rather the bare cover get seen and loved over me just tolerating a dust jacket I don't like. Some books even have beautiful imprints on the cover of the book itself that their owners don't know about. I have three beautiful, jacket-less hardcovers on my shelf.

What is your policy regarding dust jackets? Does my reasoning phase you? Perhaps consider giving some of your books new life by really evaluating whether you like your dust jackets or not. Your books should be enjoyed to their fullest extent. In my opinion, not all books need to retain their dust jackets, and it's not the end of the world if a book becomes "incomplete" without it.
