Friday 4: Día de Los Muertos Celebrations and 3-day folk music festival



SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — This weekend, check out one of many events that are honoring Día de Los Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead, a holiday that pays respects to loved ones who have passed. In addition, there is also a folk music festival in Moab this weekend for those who love to watch live music.

Día de Los Muertos Celebration in West Valley City

Where: Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 West 3100 South, West Valley City

When: Saturday, Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

What: The Utah Cultural Celebration Center is hosting a Día de los Muertos event this weekend. It will feature Mexican dance and musical performances, traditional foods, and activities for the entire family, as well as giveaways and drawings. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children 4-12. Kids three and younger can come for free.

Día de Los Muertos Festival of Altars

Where: Southern Utah Museum of Art – SUMA, 13 S 300 W, Cedar City

When: Saturday, Nov. 2

What: Since Oct. 19, the Southern Utah Museum of Art has featured an ofrenda, or altar with ancestors that have passed, on display. This Saturday, they will also be having a celebration, which will feature music, dance, food, art, and more in honor of their ancestors. Día de Los Muertos at Millcreek Common

Where: Millcreek Common, 1354 E Chambers Ave

When: Saturday, Nov. 2 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

What: At the Millcreek Common Plaza this weekend, in honor of Día de Los Muertos, there will be a celebration with a La Catrina parade, mariachi music, face painting, and ofrendas.

Moab Folk Festival

Where: Star Hall (159 E Center St, Moab) and Moab City Ballpark (198 E Center St, Moab)

When: Nov. 1 – Nov. 3

What: Enjoy a 3-day live music event with the Moab Folk Festival this weekend. Shows on Friday and Saturday nights will be in Star Hall. Saturday and Sunday day shows will be at the Moab City Ballpark. 10 artists will be featured throughout the festival. In addition music, there will be beer, wine, food, and arts vendors at the Center Street Ball field venue. For performance schedules and ticket information, visit the Moab Folk Festival website.
