OREM, Utah (ABC4) — Three people were arrested by Orem police earlier this week and are currently facing charges of using counterfeit money after police reportedly saw the suspects buying items with the counterfeit bills.
Michael Gianfranco Canari Ramos, 22, is facing the charges of criminal conspiracy, a class C misdemeanor; forgery, a third-degree felony; pattern of unlawful activity, a second-degree felony; retail theft of a value greater than $5,000, a second-degree felony and theft by receiving items valued at or greater than $5,000, a second-degree felony.
Two others have also been arrested in connection to the thefts. Fernando Granados Veliz, 24, and Jennifer Quespe, 22, are also facing the same charges.
Police worked in conjunction with the Utah Attorney General’s office to locate the suspects. On Oct. 28, Canari Ramos, Veliz, and Quespe were located in Riverdale. That’s when police initiated a traffic stop.
The statement of probable cause says that police found over $1,400 worth of merchandise from Target during a traffic stop. Kohl’s merchandise found totaled around $500.
“Target Loss Prevention estimates [its] aggregate loss at approximately $4300 and Kohl’s estimates their aggregate loss at approximately $4100,” the probable cause statement from Utah County said.
The suspects are alleged to have hit multiple retail locations in Utah, Salt Lake, and Davis counties.
According to Orem Police, the three suspects do not have any ties to Utah and are considered foreign nationals.
Police arrested Canari Ramos, Veliz, and Quespe and booked them in Utah County Jail on the aforementioned charges.
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
