LOS ANGELES, CA — A kidnapping suspect driving a white convertible Mustang led the California Highway Patrol on a 5 mph chase from Los Angeles County to Orange County.
After nearly two hours that backed up the busiest stretch of freeway in the world, the driver stopped the car in the middle of the southbound San Diego Freeway (405) in Garden Grove. Just after 8:30 p.m., the car stopped before Springdale Street, and police exited their vehicles with guns drawn.
A man exited the driver’s side of the vehicle with his hands up, walked around the front of the vehicle and hugged a woman who exited the passenger’s side of the vehicle.

According to the CHP, the chase began at about 6:45 p.m. near the I-5 and I-605 Freeway interchange.
The driver is a kidnapping suspect who may have a victim with him, according to KCAL9. The outlet reported that the victim’s family called 911 to report the kidnapping.
Police shut down the freeway and refrained from using a pit maneuver to stop the car, allowing the chase to play out.
Almost two hours into the chase, the driver could be seen talking on the phone while a passenger appeared to knock on the window or door as a line of police vehicle pursued.
Due to the length and speed of the chase, spectators lined up along freeway overpasses to watch the chase.
