Home record tarnished by Golden Gophers

(WCIA) — Bret Bielema’s sterling record against the Minnesota Golden Gophers is no longer after falling 25-17 at home.

Illinois took on the Gophers after a tough road loss to No. 1 Oregon. Shut out in the first quarter, Illinois trailed 13-10 going into the locker room.

Luke Altmyer finished the day just 20-of-33, throwing seven incompletions to start the second half.

With personnel concerns a topic of conversation leading up to this game, Pat Bryant played after his hit at Oregon but wore a precautionary boot in his post-game press conference. Xavier Scott was shaken up and missed the end of the game, while Dylan Rosiek suffered a season-ending injury.

Miles Scott was called for targeting in the second half and ejected. He will be forced to miss the first half of Illinois’s next game against Michigan State.

“To lose Miles Scott for this one and the first half of the next one, it’s just ludicrous,” said head coach Bret Bielema, sharing frustrations with the officiating in his post-game press conference.

Illinois will host the Spartans on Saturday, November 16 in the home finale.
