CHATHAM, Ill. (WCIA) – The Glenwood Titans are 9-2 but gearing up for their toughest test yet this season.
The Titans play host to East St. Louis on Saturday. The Flyers are 10-1 and did not allow a point in their first two playoff games, winning by a combined 115 points.
Glenwood, playing in the 6A bracket, had a feeling the path to state would go through East St. Louis. The Titans have been preparing for this matchup for awhile. A loss earlier in the year may have benefitted their team.
“Losing in the regular season to U-High, kind of a little bit of a reality check,” Glenwood junior quarterback Colton Knoelder said. “And I think it’s one of the reasons we’re here right now. I think we kind of locked in a little bit more as a lot of people say.”
“It was kind of always our goal, you know, beating East St Louis and no matter what, where or when, you know, getting them,” Glenwood senior safety Becklin Anderson said.
The Titans are grateful to be playing in front of their home crowd in the quarterfinals.
“Oh, we love our home and we love our place and all of the things and traditions that we have and the fans that we have,” Glenwood head coach David Hay said. “It’s a community event and we hope they show up.”
The Titans and Flyers kickoff at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Chatham.
