LOGAN, Utah (ABC4 Sports) – Rahsul Faison rushed for 192 yards and two touchdowns, as the Utah State football team cruised past Hawaii Saturday at Maverik Stadium, 55-10.
Spencer Petras completed 20 of 30 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns, while Josh Sterzer hauled in two touchdown passes as the Aggies put up a season-high 55 points.
The Aggies came into the game giving up an average of 42 points per game, but allowed a season-low 10 to the Warriors.
“That’s a huge win,” said interim head coach Nate Dreiling. “Hawaii is a dang good football team. I couldn’t be more proud of our offense. Defensively, we had a bunch of turnovers and a bunch of players playing hard. It isn’t easy when you’re 2-7. Everyone in the country quits and that was the last thing that this team is going to think about doing. Just an unbelievable performance from where we’re at and where we can get to these next couple of weeks. Awfully proud of those guys.”
The Aggies opened the scoring when Petras found Otto Tia for a 41-yard touchdown to give Utah State the early 7-0 lead. Petras then connected with Will Monney from 16 yards out to make it a 17-0 game at the end of the first quarter.
It was 24-3 at the half, when Faison busted off two 37-yard touchdown runs to blow the game open, 38-3. Derrick Jameson added a 21-yard touchdown run for the Aggies.
Utah State racked up 580 yards of total offense, while holding Hawaii to just 309 yards.
“It felt really good,” said Faison. “We’ve put a lot of hard work in and kept working, and even through all the things we’ve been through this year, we’ve never stopped fighting. We finally got a W, and that felt good at home for sure.”
Utah State (3-7, 2-3 MWC) has now won two of their last three games headed into Saturday’s showdown at home against San Diego State.
