“Kick that kickstand”: Deion Sanders receives glowing advertisement from NFL insider Adam Schefter

Deion Sanders ruled out the possibility of leaving No. 16 Colorado for the NFL on Tuesday. The coach has orchestrated a remarkable transformation in Boulder, leading the Buffaloes to an 8-2 record, which has raised his coaching profile and made him a coveted candidate.

However, Adam Schefter doesn’t rule out Deion Sanders leaving Colorado for the NFL at the end of the season. On the “Get Up” podcast on Thursday, the insider marketed Coach Prime to NFL owners, believing they could convince him to leave Boulder.

“Deion said this week that he’s got the kickstand down at Colorado, and I believe that he does love being there and influencing the lives of young men. That matters to him,” Schefter said (02:10).

“But I also believe that with that kickstand, you can go by a bicycle and kick a kickstand and wipe out the bike. I think it’s up to an NFL owner to kick that kickstand and make it such that the bike comes crumbling down in Boulder and take the bike and transport it to Dallas or whatever city is making a coaching change.”

Deion Sanders has been mentioned as a potential candidate for current or anticipated NFL coaching vacancies, including with the Dallas Cowboys. It’s to be seen if any NFL team can convince him out of Boulder, especially with his sons moving to the league in 2025.

What Deion Sanders said about NFL job links

Deion Sanders was clear about his future in his media availability session on Tuesday; he wants to remain at Colorado. The coach is in his second season with the Buffaloes after arriving from Jackson State in 2023 and anticipates more years in Boulder.

After a disappointing first season in Colorado, the coach seems to have gotten things right this season. The Buffaloes are two wins away from securing a place in the Big 12 championship game and have a strong chance of making the playoffs, which might motivate him to stay.

“I’m happy where I am, man,” he said at a press conference on Tuesday. “I’ve got a kickstand down. You know what a kickstand is? … That means I’m resting. I’m good, I’m happy, I’m excited. I’m enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here, truly do.”

Deion Sanders inked a five-year contract worth $29.5 million when he joined Colorado in December 2022. Just two years into the deal, an NFL team interested in him would have to pay a sum of $10 million to Buffaloes to buy him out of the contract.
