FLANDERS, NY — A Flanders man was arrested Sunday night after crashing into a utility pole while intoxicated and fleeing the scene, police said.
The incident took place at 9:25 p.m.; a 911 call came in about a single-car motor vehicle crash on Suffolk Avenue in Flanders, police said.
When officers arrived, they found a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had careened into the utility pole; the driver had fled the area on foot, but, after a search, Donis S. Perez Juarez, 22, was located, police said.
Perez Juarez was determined to be driving while intoxicated and was arrested at the scene; he was then transported to Southampton Town police headquarters, where he was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, a violation, police said.
He was held overnight for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.
