It’s been less than a week since the OPP began their festive R.I.D.E. program and Kawartha Lakes OPP say that the area has already undergone 4 separate arrests related to impaired driving.
In Renfrew County OPP say that at least two people have been charged with impaired driving since the campaign began.
According to OPP, 45 people have been killed in impaired driving incidents on OPP-patrolled roads this year.
More than 16,000 calls have been made to OPP this year to report suspected impaired drivers. OPP say they are counting on drivers and citizens to keep making these calls to help prevent further loss of life- especially during the holiday season.
The Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) campaign is led by the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, and runs from November 21 to January 1.
