Charges laid after driver falls asleep at the wheel in Tweed

A driver from Oakville has been charged after a single vehicle crash in Tweed.

OPP came across the collision Thursday morning on Highway 7, where they found a vehicle had left the road, striking several guard rail posts.

The investigation found that the 53-year-old driver had fallen asleep.

He was charged with careless driving and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

Central Hastings OPP remind drivers of ways to stay alert behind the wheel, such as keeping hydrated, keeping eyes moving and scanning the roadway, avoiding medications that cause drowsiness and making sure to get enough sleep before travelling.
