The streets of Maynooth are ready for the holiday season thanks to some main street residents and business owners.
We spoke with Sean Cassidy of Cassidy’s shop and Tracy Hagar of Foxfire Antiques as they were working on gathering and assembling greenery in front of their shops.
“We’re doing holiday planters along the street. But then we’re also getting small trees for all the ones going down the rest of the street..And then some of the business owners will be decorating their own planters in front of their own businesses. Wherever there’s a planter without a business, that’s where we’re all stepping up and working together to fill it.”
Hagar and Cassidy both expressed gratitude for their neighbour and main street resident Dwight Pilatzke who cares for the main street planters throughout the year.
“Every three or four days he’s out watering, fertilizing on his own time” said Cassidy, with Hagar adding, “Right now he’s going out and gathering trees so we can put them in the empty spots that we have on main street, so without him we’d be in a lot of trouble”.
Hagar and Cassidy told MooseFM that the greenery and trees are gathered from nearby properties owned by Maynooth residents.
The planters and trees have now been assembled on the main street, in time for the holiday season, including Maynooth’s Brighten the Night Christmas parade and market on Dec. 15.
