CONNECTICUT — More than 15,000 Connecticut residents are without power as a storm that brought heavy wet snow to parts of the state continues to move through Thursday morning.
Behind the storm, which should taper off late morning, wind gusts up to 50 mph are possible on Thursday, which may expand power outages across the state. (Check back for live updates throughout the day on power outages and road closures).
“Precipitation continues this morning. Given the setup, with a south/southwesterly wind, we aren’t seeing snow for all of CT,” said WFSB 3 TV meteorologists. “Instead, coastal and SE CT is seeing primarily rain, while inland areas are getting snow (especially along and NW of I-84 and throughout NE CT). Regardless, the stage is certainly set for a snowy/wet commute this morning. Across the hills of NW and NE CT, communities could pick up 2-5″ … the higher the elevation, expect the higher end of that range. Elsewhere inland, expect a coating to 2″ …meanwhile, coastal and SE CT will little to none.”
Additionally, snow squalls may break out this afternoon due to the strong wind gusts.
“These will develop in an isolated manner and could briefly reduce visibility while putting down a quick coating to half inch of snow,” WFSB 3 TV meteorologists said. (Read/watch more at WFSB 3 TV).
