So, how was your 2024? Whether it was an exciting year or you’re happy that it’s almost over, nothing tells a story like someone’s camera reel. If you want a quick rundown of everything that happened over the last year, Google Photos’s new 2024 Recap feature will remind you of what went down.
Google Photos 2024 Rolls Out Worldwide, With a Special Treat for the US
As announced on Google’s blog The Keyword, the Photos app is getting a new Recap 2024 feature. This will take images from your camera reel and arrange them in a miniature presentation to remind you of everything that happened during the year.
Google also added some cool features to sum up your year:
Aside from your Recap memory, you’ll also receive insights — fun and surprising tidbits about your year based on the photos you took, like your longest photo streak, who you smiled most with, who you took the most photos of, the top colors you photographed and your 2024 vibes.
However, if you’re in the US, there’s a chance you get an AI-enhanced version of Recap 2024. This one uses Google’s AI model, Gemini, to generate captions for the two biggest moments that happened in 2024. You’ll need to allow Gemini integration in Photos to get this special edition.
To check if you can do your recap, open Google Photos and see if it lets you make one. If you’d prefer not to keep opening Photos over the next few days, Google states that the app will send you a notification when it’s ready to make your Recap 2024, so keep an eye out for that.
