SelectHealth ends contract with CVS Pharmacy, impacting 1M members

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — SelectHealth — a Utah-based insurance plan with more than a million members — will no longer be contracted with CVS Pharmacy starting in 2025.

SelectHealth recently notified members by mail that CVS will no longer be considered an in-network pharmacy. The change comes several years after Intermountain Health closed nearly all its retail pharmacies and transferred prescriptions to CVS locations.

In 2021, Intermountain Health entered an agreement with CVS Pharmacy and transferred its inventory and prescriptions to the company. The prescription records were “securely and confidentially transferred to conveniently located [CVS] retail pharmacy locations,” the 2021 press release said.

A customer service employee confirmed that Select Health’s contract with CVS is ending and will not be renewed, leading to the removal of all CVS pharmacies from the in-network system. The change has not been officially announced online as of this publication, but the pharmacies have been removed from the website.

According to Intermountain Health, there are more than one million SelectHealth members. While the company is based in Salt Lake City, there are 34 hospitals and 400 clinics in the Intermountain Health system, spanning across Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana.

This is a developing story. ABC4 will update this post as new information becomes available.
