What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given? For every journey, there’s a unique response. Check out what was most memorable for these executives:
- Geneva Brown, Vice President, ESG and DEI, The Cigna Group (No. 7 on the 2024 Top 50 Companies list)
- Michael Horne, Head of Global Rewards, Dow (No. 3 on the 2024 Top 50 list)
- José Silva, Senior Director, Procurement Americas, Abbott (No. 13 on the 2024 Top 50 list)
Brown said the best career advice she’s received was to instill trust in the people you work with. This allows you to inspire, lead and bring people along, especially when it comes to inclusion work in corporate America. Horne added that it’s important to “never underestimate hard work.” For Silva, he was told to think about what he can change and what he cannot change; what he can influence and what he cannot influence.
“From there, you can make big changes and you can do great things,” he said.
