Knights of Columbus ‘support local’ through Christmas Tree Sales

If you don’t have a Christmas tree yet you can help out local organizations and pick one up on the main street of Bancroft.

The Knights of Columbus (KofC) are currently selling trees in the alley beside Kim’s (Zehr’s) Deli on Hastings Street.

The KofC are a Catholic men’s organization with a focus on charitable fundraising.

Knights member Peter Penlington was at the helm of the pop-up tree booth this week.

He says the KofC has raised money through tree sales for five or six years.

“All of the proceeds go to local charities. For example in the past, the food bank, pregnancy centre, some of the churches that our members belong to.”

Penlington says the trees are always freshly cut so people don’t have to worry about them getting dried out through the holidays.

“They’re locally sourced, just down by Madoc.. So we’re trying to keep our carbon footprint smaller and by supporting local, that’s also good.”

Penlington says that most of the trees are spruce, but they also have a few balsams and scotch pine as well.

Trees are $70 and according to Penlington a fresh batch has just arrived today (Friday Dec. 13).
