SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Following Thursday’s ribbon cutting ceremony, the Springfield Fire Department is hosting an open house for the new Fire Station No. 6.
To celebrate the new station, the department is allowing community members to check out the new facility in an open house from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 21. Residents will join department staff, city officials, elected leaders and other first responders to celebrate the opening.
The new station is located at 2121 S 11th St. Fire Station No. 6 is a facility aimed at improving the area’s public safety and emergency response capabilities.
It is built with modern technology that allows quicker response times. The new building also has a community room for public use and is stocked with advanced firefighting equipment and safety improvements.
