CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Champaign Park District officials are easing worries following reports of dead fish appearing at Kaufman Lake.
They were made aware by a member of the community and began to investigate the report. With assistance from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), officials confirmed the cause is a result of temperature changes.
The city’s Director of Marketing and Development said this is something they monitor with all their bodies of water.
“It certainly has happened in the past, and we just always keep a close eye on all of our properties,” said Chelsea Norton. “And of course the lakes that we have and just really make sure that the water quality is appropriate for the fish life.”
She also said the district has no long-term concerns over fish or the lake moving forward.
