The original Cantonese musical The Impossible Trial will make its premiere at the Shanghai Culture Square in June next year with the support of the China National Arts Fund.
This will be the inaugural original musical commissioned by the West Kowloon Cultural District and co-presented and co-produced with Hong Kong Repertory Theatre.
The musical tour will involve 10 shows at the Shanghai Culture Square from 17 June, followed by a stop in Beijing in July before returning to the Xiqu Centre in West Kowloon in mid-August.
Composed by Leon Ko and directed by Fong Chun Kit, The Impossible Trial sees a main cast including Lau Shau Ching and Jordan Cheng. In preparation for the mainland and overseas tours, WestK and HKRep have recruited 18 new cast members for the performances.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui thanked the country for supporting the city’s arts and culture sectors after 12 Hong Kong arts projects were selected by the China National Arts Fund.
