It’s been more than seven weeks since the devastating DANA impacted Valencia, and the road to recovery remains challenging for many residents still trying to regain some sense of normality.
In the wake of this tragedy, fundraising has taken place through various events hosted at The Irish Tavern, Justabar both in Albir, and Buddies Bar in Benidorm, among others.
Wishing to spread some Christmas cheer and sprinkle a little joy to those who need it more than most this year, one of the coordinators. Sharon Bell (Coffee 4 All Homeless Support) joined Jonny Elraiz from City Streets Community Project on a special trip to Catarroja.
Gifts for both children and adults were delivered to Catarroja in Valencia
They went along to deliver much-needed supplies and give touching Christmas gifts to adults and children. For the adults, the Justabar knitting group created 100 hats for men and women. Then, with some of the funds already raised, plus some generous donations from local customers, they stuffed each hat with essential treats and toiletries.
The team then prepared 48 Christmas bags for the children, which were lovingly created by another coordinator, Victoria McLeish. Each bag was filled with thoughtful gifts for children and teenagers, including cosy slippers, engaging puzzles, sweets, and chocolates.
Upon arriving with much-anticipated supplies and unexpected Christmas goodies, the crowd expressed immense relief and gratitude. They were touched to learn that the funds facilitating this support genuinely reflected the community spirit of residents and tourists alike.
