Master and Margarita

My brother was a big fan of this novel but is very well read. I am just working on becoming one.

I believe that this book is related to Faust and am wondering if I would get more out of it if I were to read Faust first. On a related note, is this a book that would benefit from reading analysis or is it pretty approachable?
