MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — A new, long-awaited sports complex in Mattoon has been welcoming people for three weeks now. The space focuses on both fitness and health thanks to a new partnership with Sarah Bush Lincoln.
Sarah Bush Lincoln recently moved their health clinic from Dettro Drive off of Charleston Ave. Now, it’s connected to the Emerald Acres Sports Connection at 1201 Wooddell Way. The clinic manager at the health center said it’s a convenient location to welcome current and new patients.
Phase one of the sports complex is now complete. It has multi-use courts, a food court, a game room and more. The multi-million-dollar facility is also now home to a health clinic.
“It’s great for Sarah Bush to be a part of this building,” said clinic manager Wendy Will. “A part of Emerald Acres, and it’s a huge step forward for the community.”
Will also said having Sarah Bush Lincoln at the complex will make it easier for patients who can’t get an appointment with their primary care provider.
“We can treat any kind of non-emergent illness,” she said. “So, we do a lot of strep throat, flu, COVID and sprains, breaks, things like that.”
Sophie Manasala lives in Charleston and is also a home care provider for seniors. She said this new location is much easier to find.
“I think that’s very convenient and really important because it gives people access easier to it,” Mansala said. “Especially that it’s just the walk-in if they did have an emergency.”
Will said this new move gives them more space which in turn helps them provide the best care possible.
“You know, the more visible we are, the more out there we are,” she said. “The more people are aware of us and know what we can do for them.”
The Sarah Bush Lincoln walk-in clinic is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Officials said crews will break ground on phase two of the sports complex in Summer 2026.
