SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Friday, Utah! We’re looking at increasing clouds for our Friday with a gusty southerly wind during the afternoon hours.
Bottom Line?! Near record warmth Friday afternoon, then sharply colder with valley snow possible Saturday.
The gusty wind will help to send daytime highs surging into the lower 50s for the Wasatch Front, and lower 60s for southwest Utah. The record high for SLC is 52 degrees, set back in 1934. We will have the potential to either tie or break the record-high Friday afternoon.
Clouds will thicken Friday evening, with overcast skies arriving by Friday night. Temperatures will initially start off warm Friday night, but once the cold front moves through expect a sharp drop in temperatures and snow levels. Valley rain and mountain snow will develop after midnight with a switch over to all snow down to the valley floors by early Saturday morning.
A period of snowfall will occur Saturday morning, before turning into snow showers for the afternoon hours.
Accumulations between a dusting of up to two inches will be possible along the Wasatch Front, with one to four inches for our central mountains, two to six inches for the Wasatch Back and Mountain valleys, and an additional six to 12 inches for our northern mountains, with some locally higher amounts for the Cottonwoods and Bear River Range. Daytime highs will only be in the 30s to near 40 for northern Utah on Saturday afternoon.
Look for mostly cloudy skies for Sunday with a chance for a few patches of flurries or snow showers. Another quick-moving disturbance arrives Monday, bringing another chance for some light snowfall, and a reinforcing shot of colder temperatures through most of next week.
