Man shot in Edgar Co. following armed confrontation with deputies



EDGAR COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A man in possession of a firearm was shot and airlifted to a hospital following a confrontation with Edgar County deputies.

On Friday at approximately 9:36 a.m., deputies from the Edgar County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence on E 1575th Road in Chrisman for a trespassing complaint. Upon arrival, deputies attempted to make contact at the location and were met by a male subject in possession of a rifle.

An armed confrontation then took place between the man and the deputies. A deputy then discharged their firearm, striking the subject. No deputies were injured during the altercation.

Lifesaving measures were then given to the male, and he was transported by helicopter to Carle Hospital in Champaign. He is currently receiving treatment, but his condition is unknown at this time.

This incident has now been referred to Illinois State Police and they are handling the investigation going forward.
