MT. ZION, Ill. (WCIA) — Just one week after tragedy struck Mt. Zion, another accident is coming to light, one that happened before Jack Brinkoetter lost his life.
Mt. Zion Police confirmed that on Dec. 22, an eight-year-old child was hit by a car on Fawn Court. They said the child, identified as Kellen Bennet, was taken from the scene with “serious injuries” and is still being treated in St. Louis.
According to a GoFundMe set up to support Kellen and his family, he suffered multiple brain bleeds, facial fractures, multiple broken ribs, a collapsed lung and a dislocated hip.
“He has been receiving great care and therapy services but will soon be transitioning back home and will need much more support,” the fundraiser’s organizer said. “Kellen and his family have a long road to recovery ahead of them.”
The accident involving Kellen happened two weeks before a deadly ATV accident that involved two 10-year-olds. Jack Brinkoetter was killed and a friend of his was critically injured.
